The city serves as the main transportation and commercial hub for a significant part of southeastern Alabama, southwest Georgia, and nearby portions of the Florida Panhandle.

Practice Features:
39-bed Rehab Hospital which is expanding to 51 total beds by year-end, annual census is 36; serves patients throughout southeast AL, northeast FL and southwest

A rehab physician consult is required on all cases. Patients must be seen by the rehab physician within 24 hours of admission and a minimum of 3 times per week throughout patient’s stay.

Rehab physician works closely with Internal Medicine and specialists on staff.

There’s an office in the hospital if you choose to do outpatient work

Only one other physiatrist in the area who only does outpatient

Able to do any type of outpatient services. You decide what type you want to do. You decide as opposed to a large group telling you what services to provide and which may include a lot of chronic narcotic pain management work.

Responsibilities:
Be the attending on 12 inpatients and the consultant on 24 beds

If in addition, the candidate would like to, he/she can provide outpatient services such as musculoskeletal, consults, joint injections and EMG’s

Call:
Call is by beeper and patients are medically stable so calls are infrequent

Internists will help with call

Affiliation:
Independent contractor

Compensation:
Income guarantee of $240,000 for each of the first 2 years

Compensation at Fair Market Value for estimated 40 hours/month administrative duties. Outside assessment of FMV will be completed to determine rate. Should be approximately $52,000 a year

Candidate Qualifications:
Board Certified physiatrist who has an interest and expertise in inpatient care to include medical issues

Should have excellent interpersonal and communications skills

Ability to effectively collaborate with other members of the medical staff

A patient advocate

Interest in providing staff with medical education, educating area physicians about physiatry as well as the community
