The Department of Family Medicine in the College of Community Health Sciences at The University of Alabama is seeking a Director of its Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program. Candidates must hold a MD or DO degree and be board certified in family medicine. In addition, prior teaching experience and two years full time work in the field are required. This is a non tenure earning clinical track. As a senior level position, the Residency Director will be committed full time to the residency program, with responsibility for directing and managing the program, maintaining compliance with the ACGME standards and facilitating the strategic development of the program.

Family Medicine Residency Director Ad

The Department of Family Medicine in the College of Community Health Sciences at The University of Alabama is seeking a Director of its Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program. Candidates must hold a MD or DO degree and be board certified in family medicine. In addition, prior teaching experience and two years full time work in the field are required. This is a non tenure earning clniical track. As a senior level position, the Residency Director will be committed full time to the residency program, with responsibility for directing and managing the program, maintaining compliance with the ACGME standards and facilitating the strategic development of the program. The 36 resident program is unopposed in the community and was recently awarded an expansion grant to begin with the 2012 class, which will grow it to 44 residents. College faculty include 8 full time family physicians and 26 additional faculty in internal medicine, psychiatry, psychology, pediatrics, OBGYN , nutrition and pharmacy as well as 2 part-time geriatricians and several community medicine faculty. The program is further enhanced with 5 fellowships (OB, Sports Medicine, Behavioral Medicine, Hospitalist, and Academic Medicine). Our rural programs are nationally recognized as a model for promoting primary care and providing a pipeline for rural physician training, including a rural residency track in a certified Patient Centered Medical Home.

The College of Community Health Sciences is dedicated to community engagement, to primary care, and particularly to preparing physicians to practice in rural and/or underserved areas. The College also serves as a branch campus for the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and trains seventy third and fourth year medical students as part of its mission. The Residency, which has graduated over 400 physicians in its 40 year history, is central to the mission of the College by providing excellence in the training of residents, fellows, and medical students and outstanding clinical care for the surrounding community. The outpatient facilities are based in a new 77,000 square foot building on the UA campus with inpatient training at DCH Regional Medical Center, a 583 bed facility serving a seven county area of West Alabama.
